Senate: Take Action on Climate Change Now

BACKGROUND:
Despite clear scientific evidence of the harm being done to our air, land, and water, by the greenhouses gases that are the source of climate change, Senators and Representatives have introduced a barrage of bills that would roll back the Environmental Protection Agency’s enforcement of Clean Air Act safeguards, in particular the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011 (H.R. 910/S.482.). This bill passed the House in April 2011 and is now being considered in the Senate. These safeguards are already saving lives and improving the health of millions of Americans. Congress must not halt EPA’s work in its tracks.

These bad air bills would allow polluters to continue to spew unlimited amounts of carbon and other pollution into our air. Legislation like this puts the interests of America's biggest and dirtiest polluters ahead of the health of each of us, our kids and families.

JEWISH VALUES:
As Jews we are called from the earliest verses of Torah to be good stewards of our resources, including water and air, and to protect our natural world. In Midrash  we are told “Take care, lest you spoil and destroy my world, because if you do, there is no one after you to make it right again” (Kohelet Rabbah 7:13).

TAKE ACTION:
Urge your Senator to vote against the Energy Tax Prevention Act of 2011 (S.482) or any bill that would block or delay the EPA’s ability to continue to regulate the nation’s biggest polluters.
