Oppose Divisive White House Leadership

This week, President-Elect Donald Trump named Steve Bannon as White House Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor. In his roles as editor of the Breitbart website and as a strategist in the Trump campaign, Mr. Bannon was responsible for the advancement of ideologies antithetical to our values as Americans, including anti-Semitism, misogyny, racism and Islamophobia. There should be no place for such views in the White House.

Urge your Members of Congress to oppose the appointment of Steve Bannon to a White House leadership position.

  • Background:

President-Elect Trump has said he wants to be president for all Americans. Contradictorily, he has named Steve Bannon as White House Chief Strategist and Senior Counselor. The President-Elect is entitled to choose advisors who he believes will help him implement his agenda. However, both in his roles as editor of the Breitbart website and as a strategist in the Trump campaign, Mr. Bannon was responsible for the advancement of ideologies antithetical to our nation, including anti-Semitism, misogyny, racism and Islamophobia. There should be no place for such views in the White House. It is essential that President-Elect Trump assemble a leadership team that reflects his stated aspiration to be president for all.

    Jewish Values:

As we learn from the Talmud, “If one can protest the misdeeds of his or her household, yet does not, the person becomes guilty with them. If a person can protest the misdeeds of one’s townspeople and does not, the person is guilty with them. If one can protest the misdeeds of the entire world and does not, that person is guilty with them” (Shabbat 54b). We must speak out against injustices wherever they occur, at all levels of society and in our communities. The appointment of Steve Bannon would be an injustice not just to the people who have been targeted by the rhetoric and ideologies he has helped advance, but to the core values of the United States.
