President Trump has announced plans to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border. Such a wall is a deeply misguided means of addressing the very real challenges facing our immigration system. Instead of myopically prioritizing border security alone, we need immigration policies that holistically fulfill our national security imperatives, meet the needs of employers and workers, and unite and strengthen families.
Today, we face the enormous challenges posed by our nation's broken immigration system. More than ever, we need comprehensive reform of our immigration system. Over 11 million undocumented immigrants live in the shadows of our communities across the country. Families face up to decades-long backlogs in acquiring visas, workers are left without protections, and children are left behind as parents are deported. Comprehensive reform is based on streamlined processing, a commitment to obey the rule of law, payment of taxes owed, family reunification, and a path to citizenship. Urge your Members of Congress to swiftly introduce and adopt comprehensive immigration reform.
