Thank Your Senators for Defending Affordable Health Care

Early in the morning on Friday, July 28, the Senate rejected the proposed repeal of the Affordable Care Act by a 51-49 vote. The legislation would have substantially rolled back the enormous progress the ACA has made in the lives of millions of Americans. Thanks to the outcry of constituents like you, the Senate voted to protect access to affordable health care.

Thank your Senator for voting against repeal of the ACA and urge them to work together in a bipartisan, transparent way to improve America’s health care system so that all people may access the medical treatment they need.

  • Background

The Affordable Care Act changed the lives of millions of Americans for the better by making health care accessible and affordable to great extents. For example, before the law’s enactment, individuals with preexisting conditions could be denied health care, and women could be charged more solely because of their gender. Today, over 20 million Americans have health insurance thanks to the ACA.

    Jewish Values

For centuries, Jewish law has commanded communities to provide health care to their inhabitants (Mishneh Torah, Hilchot De'ot IV: 23). We learn that health care is a core element of creating a society of equality and justice. Leaving millions of people without health care would undermine years of progress and an important measure that lifts up the most vulnerable among us.
