Support the Presence of Israeli and International Staff at URJ Camps

The Trump Administration is considering ending the J-1 Visa program that allows international staff – including Israelis - to work at Reform Movement camps for the summer. The recent White House order on “Buy American, Hire American” misguidedly targets these kinds of vital international cultural experiences for elimination – directly and negatively impacting our camps and our campers.

Background

URJ summer camps provide a unique and powerful experience for thousands of campers each year. Much of that power comes from the presence of Israeli counselors and other international staff who enrich the experience each summer. Learning about Israel from Israelis and building personal connections to the Jewish homeland makes URJ camps unlike any others.

Unfortunately, that experience is now threatened by a State Department proposal to end the J-1 Visa program that allows international staff to join us for the summer. The recent White House order on “Buy American, Hire American” misguidedly targets these kinds of vital international cultural experiences for elimination – directly and negatively impacting our camps and our campers.

International staff are part of the vibrant fabric of URJ camps. Contact the White House, State Department, and your senators and let them know you support the J-1 visa program.
