Protect Our Nation's Waters

BACKGROUND:

Since Congress passed the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972, we have made great progress cleaning up our nation’s waters, but that progress is in jeopardy. Opponents claim that the Act no longer protects many wetlands, streams, rivers, lakes and other waters that are the backbone of vital ecosystems. The Clean Water Restoration Act of 2009 (S. 787), introduced by Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI) and supported by 24 co-sponsors, would ensure protection for these waters, as intended by the original Clean Water Act.

JEWISH VALUES:
The history of the Jewish people is intricately tied to our relationship with water, and we are consistently encouraged "l'vadah ul'shamrah," to till and to tend, to become stewards of the earth and its resources. We must appreciate the importance of our limited water resources and act to ensure that they are kept clean for us and for generations to come.

TAKE ACTION:
Ask your Senators to co-sponsor and support the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2009 (S. 787). The Capitol Switchboard can be reached at 202.224.3121, or you can send an email by entering your zip code below. For more information, please contact Senior Legislative Assistant Rachel Cohen at 202.387.2800.

Please consider opportunities to support this and other critical issues.
