Clean Energy Vote This Week!
The American Clean Energy and Security Act (HR 2454) is expected on the House floor THIS FRIDAY, June 26. This comprehensive bill promotes renewable electricity and energy efficiency; limits greenhouse gas emissions; and helps both the U.S. and the poorest countries around the world adapt to the impacts of climate change. Despite weeks of drafts and compromises, the vote count remains very close, and we must do all we can to move this bill forward during this critical window for action.
We can confront both the environmental and economic crises with comprehensive clean energy solutions that produce millions of new jobs and new opportunities, increase access to clean, renewable sources of energy, and dramatically reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause potentially catastrophic climate change. As the bill moves forward, we must continue to call for strong limits on carbon emissions and stronger standards for renewable energy and energy efficiency, while ensuring that we protect vulnerable communities at home and abroad.
The Talmudic commentary on Genesis includes these instructions from God: “Take care, lest you spoil and destroy my world, because if you do, there is no one after you to make it right again” (Kohelet Rabbah 7:13). We are commanded to protect not only our planet, but all its human inhabitants as well, opening our hands, lending whatever is needed (Deuteronomy 7-11), and advocating on behalf of the poor and vulnerable (Proverbs 31:9).
Call on your Member of Congress TODAY to fight climate change and protect the poorest and most vulnerable members of society by leading our nation to a clean, green, equitable energy future. Urge your Representative to support the American Clean Energy and Security Act (HR 2454) and work toward a bill that includes strong targets for emissions reductions and clean energy development, funds international adaptation to climate change, and protects low-income and vulnerable communities in the U.S.
